Antique Victorian Carved Oak Pedestal Writing Desk – Gothic Revival – Circa 1890

£695.00

A magnificent late Victorian carved oak pedestal writing desk, dating from approximately 1880–1900, combining substantial proportions, exceptional storage and beautifully executed Gothic Revival-inspired detailing.

Constructed in richly toned oak, the desk has developed a deep, warm finish that beautifully highlights the natural grain and gives the piece tremendous presence.

The traditional twin-pedestal design incorporates eight practical drawers, with three drawers to each pedestal and two wide drawers positioned beneath the writing surface.

The upper drawers are particularly impressive, featuring deeply carved architectural Gothic-style panels that immediately distinguish this desk from more conventional Victorian examples. The lower drawers feature recessed panel fronts and are finished with ornate metal ring handles and decorative backplates.

A substantial moulded top provides a generous working surface, while the central kneehole allows the desk to remain genuinely practical for everyday use.

This would make an exceptional statement desk for a home office, library or study, but its architectural character also makes it particularly effective within an English country, period or eclectic contemporary interior.

A handsome piece of late Victorian furniture combining craftsmanship, practicality and over a century of naturally acquired character.
