Antique Oak Pedestal Writing Desk – Circa 1900 – Victorian Edwardian Jacobean Revival Desk

£595.00

A wonderfully characterful antique oak pedestal writing desk, dating from approximately 1890–1910, with distinctive late Victorian / Edwardian Jacobean Revival influences.

Substantial, architectural and packed with character, this is far more than a conventional writing desk. The impressive twin-pedestal construction combines practical storage with beautifully detailed period craftsmanship, creating a piece that would make an exceptional focal point within a home office, library or study.

The desk features a generous writing surface above an arrangement of drawers across the upper section and both pedestals. Deeply moulded drawer fronts, fluted detailing, decorative panelled sides and beautifully turned lower supports give the piece its unmistakable period presence.

Traditional metal drop handles and individual keyholes complement the richly aged oak, which has developed a wonderfully dark and varied patina through generations of use.

The writing surface is particularly characterful, displaying extensive historic wear and remnants of blue colouring. Rather than disguising this history, the surface has been retained in its wonderfully distressed state, giving the desk an authentic artist’s-studio or old country-house appearance.

A superb piece for a home office, library, study, period property or characterful commercial interior.

Condition

Presented in authentic antique condition with considerable signs of age and previous use.

The writing surface is heavily distressed, displaying extensive wear, scratches, marks, losses to the finish and remnants of blue colouring.

The oak throughout also displays age-related knocks, scratches, rubbing, variations in colour and finish and other imperfections consistent with an antique working piece of furniture.

These characteristics have deliberately not been disguised and contribute considerably to the desk’s wonderfully timeworn appearance.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
