A beautiful Edwardian mahogany bureau bookcase, dating approximately from circa 1900–1920, combining an elegant glazed display cabinet, traditional writing bureau and generous storage within one impressive piece of furniture.

Inspired by Georgian and Chippendale designs, the bureau has wonderfully elegant proportions and a rich mahogany finish that highlights the character of the timber beautifully.

The upper section features a pair of glazed panelled doors, opening to reveal three display shelves backed in a striking deep red fabric. This creates a wonderful setting for displaying books, glassware, ceramics or treasured collections.

Below sits the traditional fall-front writing bureau, decorated with delicate beaded detailing and carved floral paterae to each corner. Opening the fall creates a generous writing surface and reveals a fitted interior with pigeonholes and compartments for stationery, correspondence and smaller items.

Three graduated drawers provide further useful storage, while the elegant cabriole legs terminating in ball-and-claw feet complete the classic appearance.

A particularly handsome and versatile piece that combines the functions of a bookcase, display cabinet, writing desk and storage chest, while occupying relatively little floor space.

Condition

Presented in good antique condition, retaining a beautiful rich colour and plenty of character throughout.

As expected from a piece of this age, there are marks, scratches, variations and signs of previous use, including wear to the writing surface. These are consistent with its age and contribute to its authentic antique character.
