A truly beautiful early 20th-century walnut bureau bookcase, dating to approximately 1920–1940 and most likely from the 1920s to early 1930s.
Designed in the elegant Queen Anne / Georgian Revival style, this wonderfully versatile piece combines a traditional writing bureau, generous drawer storage and a beautiful glazed display cabinet within one exceptionally attractive piece of furniture.
The upper cabinet features a pair of striking geometric leaded-glass doors, complemented by matching glazed side panels. The warm walnut frames the glass beautifully, creating an elegant display space for books, glassware, ceramics or treasured collections.
Below sits the traditional fall-front writing bureau, displaying particularly attractive figuring across the walnut. Opening the fall reveals a beautifully fitted interior with pigeonholes, compartments and two small central drawers, while the lowered front provides a generous writing or working surface.
The lower section incorporates two short drawers above two generous full-width drawers, finished with traditional brass handles. Elegant cabriole legs and shaped feet complete the classic period-revival appearance.
A fabulous piece for a characterful home and an exceptionally versatile design that could be used as a writing desk, bookcase, home-office workstation, display cabinet or even a distinctive drinks cabinet.
