A truly striking Victorian ebonised and burr walnut fold-over games table, dating to approximately c.1875.
This highly decorative antique table combines a rich black ebonised finish with beautifully figured burr walnut inlay and contrasting decorative detailing. The closed tabletop features an intricate symmetrical design centred around a burr walnut panel, surrounded by delicate line decoration and a richly figured burr walnut border.
The top folds open to reveal a traditional red baize playing surface, transforming the piece into a generous square card or games table.
Beneath, four turned supports rise from an elaborate central pedestal and sweeping quadriform base, finished with contrasting walnut details and small castors. The combination of the architectural base and decorative top makes this a particularly impressive example.
When closed, it works equally well as an occasional, centre or statement table, making it both decorative and practical.
