An exceptional late Victorian Aesthetic Movement mirrored sideboard, dating from approximately 1880–1895, with an extraordinarily decorative architectural form and strong Anglo-Japanese influences.
This is a genuine statement piece. Rising to over two metres in height, the elaborate superstructure incorporates a large central mirror flanked by two smaller mirrored panels, surrounded by pierced galleries, turned supports, decorative finials and beautifully detailed panel work.
The arrangement is wonderfully architectural, with different heights, open spaces and decorative elements creating the distinctive asymmetry and visual interest associated with the Victorian Aesthetic Movement.
Below sits a substantial polished serving and display surface, making the piece practical as well as decorative. The lower section incorporates a central drawer above a double-door cupboard, with open shelving positioned to either side and a generous display shelf running across the base.
The cupboard doors and upper panels are embellished with unusual applied decorative motifs, while slender turned supports and pierced gallery sections add further refinement to what is already an exceptionally detailed piece.
Perfect for a dining room, entrance hall or dramatic living space, this could be used as a traditional sideboard, drinks station, serving buffet or simply as an extraordinary statement piece within an English country-house, Victorian or maximalist interior.

Condition
Presented in good antique condition with genuine signs of age and previous use consistent with a piece dating from the late 19th century.
There are age-related marks, scratches, knocks, rubbing and variations to the finish throughout. The mirrored sections may display some age-related marks and deterioration associated with antique mirrored glass.
