Antique Oak Fall-Front Writing Bureau – Late Victorian / Edwardian Circa 1900
A wonderfully characterful antique oak fall-front writing bureau, believed to date from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, approximately 1890–1910.
This striking piece has enormous decorative presence, combining a beautifully aged dark oak finish with elaborate geometric mouldings reminiscent of Gothic and Jacobean Revival furniture.
The substantial fall-front opens to form a generous writing surface and reveals a traditional fitted interior with numerous pigeonholes, compartments and two small drawers. It provides an atmospheric yet genuinely practical workspace for a study, library, living room or home office.
Beneath the writing section are three generous graduated drawers, each enhanced with bold applied mouldings and decorative metal drop handles.
The naturally worn finish is one of the most appealing aspects of this bureau. Decades of use have created variations in colour, rubbed edges, surface marks and a deep patina that would be extremely difficult to reproduce artificially.
A beautiful piece for anyone wanting furniture with genuine age, individuality and architectural character.
