A magnificent early 20th-century Chippendale Revival sideboard, dating from approximately 1920–1930, combining beautifully figured timber, elegant Georgian-inspired detailing and generous practical storage.
The sideboard has a wonderfully balanced symmetrical design, with two central drawers flanked by two cupboard compartments. The cupboard doors are particularly striking, displaying beautifully figured, book-matched timber that creates a rich decorative effect across the front.
Below, an intricately carved frieze runs across the cabinet before meeting four elegant cabriole legs terminating in traditional ball-and-claw feet — one of the defining features of the piece.
A shaped gallery back rises above the substantial polished top, creating an impressive silhouette while still providing a generous surface for displaying artwork, lamps, ceramics or serving pieces.
Internally, the two side cupboards provide useful concealed storage, complemented by the two generously proportioned central drawers.
The timber has the appearance of walnut with figured walnut veneers, although without definitive provenance we prefer not to attribute the precise timber species with absolute certainty.
A substantial and beautifully proportioned piece that would work wonderfully as a dining-room sideboard, living-room cabinet, hallway statement piece or substantial console.
